Bainbridge Island activities

Visit A Bainbridge Distillery & Enjoy Other Tastings!

We just wrote a blog about visiting Bainbridge Brewing and sampling their delicious craft beers.  So what about the Bainbridge distillery, and all of the other great tastings this island has to offer?  There are plenty of delicious tastings to choose from, whether you’re into beer, fine spirits, or wine, and this summer seems the perfect opportunity to get your tastings on!  Bainbridge Island is open, and many of these locations have outdoor seating and plenty of room for social distancing.  Masks are required in Washington state, too, so don’t forget to bring yours along on your incredible tasting journey.

Between a craft brewery (with 2 great locations), 2 wonderful distilleries, and 7 local wineries, there’s more than enough to spread out to at least two days.  Combine that with the great restaurants, shops, and natural beauty on Bainbridge Island, and you have the recipe for a perfect getaway.  There are a number of great lodging choices on the island, too, from traditional hotels and Inns to charming Airbnb and VRBO rentals.  Whatever it is you’re looking for, we’re sure you can find it on Bainbridge Island.  Make this a summer to remember, and come visit us for a few days! Visit Bainbridge Brewing This Summer

If you have a penchant for traveling around the state (or country) sampling craft beer and using these tastings as an opportunity to explore charming communities on the way, then Bainbridge Island, the home of Bainbridge Brewing, might just need to be next on your list.  It’s summer, and for Bainbridge Island, that usually means boatloads of tourists as they hop on the Washington State Ferry in downtown Seattle and head over for the 35-minute ride to our quaint paradise.  COVID-19 has definitely changed some things here, not least of which are the numbers of people coming to the island.

Rest assured, though, that businesses like Bainbridge Brewing, and other island restaurants and shops, are open, all with protocols in place and ready to welcome you to the island. We understand just how important getting out for a change of pace can be, even if all it entails is an afternoon of beer flights and other great tastings. Maybe you want to extend your trip to something more than an afternoon?  There are a number of small and clean options for lodging on the island, many of which involve no additional exposure for you (or for us!).  Browse through our unique selection of accommodations, and enjoy a restful few days on Bainbridge Island with us this summer. Wondering What to do on Bainbridge Island This Summer?

Do you find yourself wondering what to do on Bainbridge Island this summer, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic when most things are still closed?  You’re not alone!  We’re not sure what this summer is going to look like on Bainbridge Island. As a town that pretty heavily relies on tourism throughout the year, but especially in summer, the prospect of remaining closed or having limitations one just how many people can visit us in downtown Winslow is certainly something we’re thinking and worrying about.

Luckily, though, one of the many draws to Bainbridge Island is its rural character and the variety of things to do here that you just don’t find in the city.  This includes things like biking, hiking, and enjoying our parks and trails.  And, as per the order by Washington’s Governor, these things are all currently opened, with social distancing strongly encouraged.  Some of the best parts of Bainbridge, then, will still be open and available to you this summer. Your vacation might be a little more creative than it otherwise would have been, but we think this presents the perfect opportunity to experience what life on this quaint rural island is really about!

When it does come time for those mini-getaway and staycations that will surely be popular this summer, the lodging accommodations on Bainbridge Island will be waiting.  From a small boutique hotel in downtown Winslow to a variety of unique rental properties, the Bainbridge Island Lodging Association has something that will fit the needs of anyone who wants to visit here.  Browse through our listings, and discover your perfect getaway to Bainbridge Island just as soon as it’s safe to travel. Bainbridge Island Parks and Trails Perfect for Social Distancing

The entire world, and especially the tourism industry which is so important to Bainbridge Island’s economy, is struggling in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s hard to talk about things to do and places to go as if times were normal, and that includes making trips to Bainbridge Island parks and trails. Washington State is currently on a stay at home order until at least May 4, but an extension looks likely.

Though we are still required to stay home to keep our homes and communities safe, Governor Inslee did announce that Washington State Parks and public lands would reopen to the public starting May 5th. We’re grateful for the ability to get out to our Bainbridge Island parks and trails again, and we thought we’d take some time to share some of our favorites with you.

We also think that, in the face of the extensive social isolation we’ve all been facing in recent months, it’s important to look forward and plan in some special trips and “you” time.  When it’s safe to do so, Bainbridge Island will still be here ready, and waiting to welcome you back as we have before. Many of our parks and trails, which really are one of the best parts of Bainbridge Island, can be enjoyed while keeping social distancing guidelines in mind, too.

When you do find your way to Bainbridge Island later this year, we hope you’ll stop and stay for a while, staying at one of our incredible lodging properties.  Browse through our collection of properties, and give yourself permission to start dreaming. Continue reading

Beauty and Bounty on Bainbridge

Thanksgiving Week Adventures

It’s Thanksgiving week and you’re heading to Bainbridge Island for feasts and festivities.  At the Seattle ferry terminal, you have the quintessential experience, you miss the boat by two cars.  Well, that’s perfect! Time enough to grab a “three piece” from Ivar’s Fish Bar or a quick drink from Ivar’s bar bar inside.  With a young one in tow these days, Fish Bar it is.  But travel to the island is only a part of the fun. Once on the rock, there are a couple of decades-old Bainbridge traditions the entire family will enjoy.

Thanksgiving week on Bainbridge is an island-wide adventure.  This is not a sit-at-home-and-chat-over-cheese kind of place. Your family and friends will want to take you out and show you their favorite parks, beaches, bakeries, restaurants, and watering holes.

The night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest nights of the year in local pubs.  If kid-free, check out The Alehouse on Winslow, or The Harbour Public House.  If you have young ones with you, welcoming places to unwind are Bruchiato, the Treehouse Cafe or the Bainbridge Brewery Taproom, where upstairs pinball machine will keep kids of all ages entertained.

Black Friday on Bainbridge can only mean one thing — stay out of the mall and enjoy nature! On Bainbridge we call it Green Friday.  You will see more islanders walking, biking, and jogging on Black Friday than any other day.  Burn off those post-feast calories (to make room for more) in the most beautiful settings at Bloedel Reserve, Fort Ward Park, The Grand Forest, or Islandwood at their free Black Friday Open House, Afternoon on the Trails. Register online and enjoy Islandwood trails, ponds, the ravine suspension bridge and the birds-eye view canopy tower.

We are thankful for Bainbridge Island’s abundant bounty — family, friends, food, holiday night-life, and accessible natural beauty everywhere you turn. It’s a perfect place to getaway, during the holidays, or any time of the year
