Find Your Solace at Bloedel Reserve This Summer

There was a period of time this spring and early summer when the Bloedel Reserve was closed to the public, but we can happily say it’s back open again and serving as the same restorative sanctuary as always. This month, Bloedel Reserve was ranked as one of the year’s 10 best Botanical Gardens in the country by USA Today.

We couldn’t agree more, of course.  Bloedel Reserve is a special place, as just about anyone who has been there can attest.  This is actually the second time Bloedel has made the top 10 list, which is determined by voting on nominees presented by a panel that includes travel and garden experts and members of the USA Today editorial staff.

Though you can explore this incredible space on a day trip from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, we recommend staying a night or two and exploring the other wonderful things this island has to offer. The Bainbridge Island Lodging Association has a variety of members, including traditional hotels, boutique inns, B&Bs, and vacation rentals to choose from, and makes it easy to find accommodations that suit your needs.  Browse through our members, and book your stay today! Visit Bainbridge Brewing This Summer

If you have a penchant for traveling around the state (or country) sampling craft beer and using these tastings as an opportunity to explore charming communities on the way, then Bainbridge Island, the home of Bainbridge Brewing, might just need to be next on your list.  It’s summer, and for Bainbridge Island, that usually means boatloads of tourists as they hop on the Washington State Ferry in downtown Seattle and head over for the 35-minute ride to our quaint paradise.  COVID-19 has definitely changed some things here, not least of which are the numbers of people coming to the island.

Rest assured, though, that businesses like Bainbridge Brewing, and other island restaurants and shops, are open, all with protocols in place and ready to welcome you to the island. We understand just how important getting out for a change of pace can be, even if all it entails is an afternoon of beer flights and other great tastings. Maybe you want to extend your trip to something more than an afternoon?  There are a number of small and clean options for lodging on the island, many of which involve no additional exposure for you (or for us!).  Browse through our unique selection of accommodations, and enjoy a restful few days on Bainbridge Island with us this summer. Saturday Morning at the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market

Though things certainly look different these days at the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market, it’s still one of our favorite places to spend a part of our Saturday. Like most farmers’ markets, the one on Bainbridge offers a beautiful cross-section of our community and is one of the best ways to get a feel for this incredible place. In normal times, the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market is buzzing with people of all ages and from all backgrounds, there to pick up their produce for the week, to sample the delicious foods offered at the market, to check out the latest work of local artisans, and to listen to music and mingle with friends.

It’s a delightful Saturday morning tradition, and one we think everyone should experience.  Washington State is still largely in phase 1 of reopening after the Coronavirus pandemic, and likely won’t be fully open to travel between communities for some time yet. We think it’s important to stay home to keep all of our incredible communities safe, including our own.  But as we do get to the point of reopening, we hope you’ll join us for some quiet R&R on Bainbridge Island, where you’ll experience a wonderful variety of things to do, including the weekly Bainbridge Island Farmers Market.

Until it’s safe to travel, please honor our community by staying home. In the meantime, engage in a little travel planning and plan a future escape to our charming island.  The Bainbridge Island Lodging Association has a wonderful range of lodging properties to choose from, each of which offers a different glimpse into the charmed life on our beautiful island. We really do hope to see you soon! Continue reading

The holidays are coming up, and we couldn’t be more excited.  It’s a great time to gather with loved ones, but also a time to hit the stores and go shopping for special gifts that will brighten the lives of those you love. Friends and family will gather around Thanksgiving tables around the country next week, and soon after, Bainbridge Island will officially kick off its holiday shopping with the annual tree lighting in downtown Winslow.  We thought we’d take the time now to talk about some of our favorite shopping on the island, which includes the upcoming Bainbridge Island Studio Tour. Bainbridge Cinemas Air Live Met Opera Performances This Winter

Earlier this year, BILA announced its Community Partner Program (CPP), which seeks to create greater linkages between Bainbridge Island lodgers and top businesses and attractions. Through social media, website link exchanges and brochure swaps, lodgers and business owners are working together to promote Bainbridge Island as a fantastic overnight destination.

far-away-entertainment-logoOne of our first community partners was Far Away Entertainment, which operates Bainbridge Island’s two cinemas, the Historic Lynwood Theatre and the five-plex Bainbridge Cinemas. In addition to sharing their weekly showtimes with our member lodgers and guests, BILA is partnering with Far Away Entertainment to promote their 2014-2015 Met Opera performances. Between November 2014 and April 2015, Bainbridge Cinemas will air seven Metropolitan Opera performances live on screen!

met-operas-at-bainbridge-cinemas-285x285Thanks to the BILA-Far Away partnership, guests of BILA member lodgers will receive a $2 discount on Met Opera Live On Screen tickets. This partnership is particularly exciting since it takes place during the tourism off-season, when out-of-town guests to Bainbridge Island have fewer activities. So, this winter, thanks to Far Away Entertainment, enjoy phenomenal music from the comfort of a cinema seat (popcorn and candy optional)!
