Hawaiian Newspaper Tells Readers to Visit Bainbridge Island
A newspaper on another beautiful island has just suggested that their readers take a trip to our special isle.
That’s right, an article in the November 2nd edition of the Honolulu Star Advertiser featured our very own Bainbridge Island! Although at this time of year many Washingtonians are making the reverse journey to warm Hawai’i, the Star Advertiser offered an enthusiastic endorsement of Bainbridge Island in the slower, “shoulder” season.
Jean Kellerman, a long-time resident of Hawai’i who now operates the popular Kellerman Creek B&B on Bainbridge says that many Hawaiians travel to the Pacific Northwest each autumn for school and to see the fall colors.
No offense intended against the other side of Puget Sound, but the newspaper advised travelers to make a bee-line from downtown to the Seattle-Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal. The $8 ticket for walk-on passengers was described as a bargain compared to $21.95 admission to the Seattle Aquarium.
The writer, Christopher Reynolds of the Los Angeles Times, mentioned several top Island attractions, including the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, the Eagle Harbor Book Co. and Bainbridge Arts & Crafts. For foodies, the author highlighted the award-winning, locavore restaurant, Hitchcock, and the blackberry gelato made from Island berries at Mora Iced Creamery. For activities, Bainbridge Island’s seven wineries and 30 miles of forest trails made the cut.
Although Reynolds regretted allotting just four hours for his Bainbridge Island adventure, he didn’t complain about the view on his return commute – the sun setting over Puget Sound with Seattle’s skyline gleaming the entire way. Of course, with so many wonderful lodging options on Bainbridge Island, we hope that next time he’ll spend the night, or better yet, an entire week!
