Get Ready for the Holidays: Shopping on Bainbridge Island

Holiday Shopping on Bainbridge IslandThe holidays are coming up, and we couldn’t be more excited.  It’s a great time to gather with loved ones, but also a time to hit the stores and go shopping for special gifts that will brighten the lives of those you love. Friends and family will gather around Thanksgiving tables around the country next week, and soon after, Bainbridge Island will officially kick off its holiday shopping with the annual tree lighting in downtown Winslow.  We thought we’d take the time now to talk about some of our favorite shopping on the island, which includes the upcoming Bainbridge Island Studio Tour.

Downtown Winslow Shopping

There are a number of wonderful boutiques lining Winslow Way, which makes up the heart of historic downtown Bainbridge Island. Winslow Way is just steps away from the ferry terminal as well, making it an easy target for shoppers coming to the island for a day. Here are a few of our favorite stores to visit in Winslow:

Bainbridge Specific Gifts

  • Bay Hay and Feed is a great place to go if you’re in search of something local. Their signature t-shirts are a staple in the wardrobes of many locals, and they have proven a popular gift worn around the world. They also have mugs and an assortment of delightful gift ideas. You can check a number of people off your list at this charming farm store!
  • Local art and other products available at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art gift store.
  • If you have a nature lover on your list, consider gifting them a membership to the incredible Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island.

Bainbridge Island Studio Tour

Art and artists are an important part of the Bainbridge Island community. The beautiful Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is one of the first things you’ll see as you arrive by ferry on Bainbridge Island. If you’re an art lover or have an art lover on your holiday shopping list, then visiting this winter during the Bainbridge Island Studio Tour is exactly what you need to do. The Bainbridge Island Studio Tour is a twice-annual, free, self-guided art show, and just so happens to be the perfect place to pick up some one-of-a-kind art as you visit each participating studio. The 2019 Winter Studio Tour will take place from December 6 – 8, 2019.

Christmas in the Country

Another great place to pick up locally-made goods is the annual Christmas in the Country event, which just so happens to be the same weekend as the Bainbridge Island Studio Tour. This annual holiday tour is entering its 26th year and is one of the best times of year to go shopping on Bainbridge Island.  There are participating venues all over the island, which also gives you the perfect glimpse into life in this charming place.

Thank You For Visiting Destination Bainbridge

The coronavirus pandemic is affecting all overnight lodging on Bainbridge Island. We look forward to the day when we can welcome you to this beautiful destination with a handshake or a friendly Island hug!

The governor of Washington State has issued a Stay Home Stay Healthy order, discouraging residents from leaving their homes, except to conduct essential business, through May 4.

During this unsettling time, we understand some people need to travel to Bainbridge Island to take care of family members or to conduct essential business. The proclamation identifies lodging as an essential business and our larger Inns and Hotels on the Island are open for business. Vacation rentals are available on a case-by-case basis.

Lodging owners are working hard to ensure overnight guests are comfortable in a clean, healthy environment. In addition to enhanced cleaning and sanitizing, our hosts have enhanced staff training, implemented easier check-in procedures and room quarantines. Online ordering, take-out, and curbside delivery food service are available from many local restaurants and wineries. Grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, and some essential retailers are also open.

Most hosts have modified cancellation and refund policies. If you need to change your reservations please contact your host directly to reschedule your visit or to request a refund.

If you are planning to attend an event or visit a favorite Island attraction, most parks, wineries, and restaurants are temporarily closed, except for takeout. We invite you to visit BainbridgeCurrents to learn what events have been canceled or rescheduled, and the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association to learn what businesses are currently open in a more limited capacity. Also, travel to our Island may be difficult, with limited flights to the Seattle area and reduced ferry service to our Island.

Please visit our Find Lodging and Promotions pages for specific details about availability and links to the accommodations currently providing overnight service. We wish you continued good health and safety, and we look forward to once again welcoming you to Bainbridge Island in the near future.
