Things To Do on Bainbridge Island This Week – June 17-23, 2013

This week we officially kick off the glorious summer season on Bainbridge Island, with incredibly long days – a whopping 16 hours of daylight! To celebrate our Island summer,  here is the Bainbridge Island Lodging Association’s round-up of the best local activities taking place this week. With everything to see and do, we think you’ll want to spend a few nights on our Bainbridge Island!

Monday, June 17

Bainbridge Island Meditation Group
7:00 – 8:00 pm @ Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church (11042 Sunrise Drive NE)
The Bainbridge Island Meditation Group is a drop-in group dedicated to supporting the meditation practice of people living in the Bainbridge Island area. Previous vipassana practice and/or previous attendance at an beginning mediation class is helpful, but not essential. Admission: $2 (Suggested Donation)

Tuesday, June 18

Field’s End Writers’ Roundtable
7:00 – 8:00 pm @ Bainbridge Island Library (1270 Madison Ave N)
An event tailor made for the aspiring local journalist. During this week’s event, experts including Michael Cyger, Vicki Wilson and Erin Jennings present, “From Proposal to Press: Writing for Bainbridge Island Magazine.” Admission: Free

Wednesday, June 19

Bainbridge Dance Center’s 32nd Annual Student Performance
7:00 pm @ Bainbridge Performing Arts (200 Madison Avenue N)
Six great performances showcase more than 180 students, ages 4-18. The youngest students demonstrate pre-technique movement while beginning through advanced students perform choreography in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap techniques. Choreography for these students is thoughtfully created by BDC’s faculty members. Please join Bainbridge Dance Center for its annual celebration. Admission: $17 Adults; $13 for Seniors, youths, students, military and teachers

Thursday, June 20

Microsoft, Wi-Fi and the Future
5:30 – 7:00 pm @ Office Xpats at the Pavilion (403 Madison Ave N, #240)
This tech-themed event will focus on the new Microsoft Windows 8, Office 2013, Microsoft 365 and the free Wi-Fi coming to Bainbridge. Jason Omens of Office Xpats will discuss how to bring your office into the 21st Century. This is free event has limited seating, so attendees must reserve seats in advance here. Admission: Free

Friday, June 21

Building a Sustainable Economy Lecture Series: “Social Purpose Investing”
5:30 – 7:00 pm @ Bainbridge Public Library (1270 Madison Ave N)
Featuring Michael “Luni” Libes, Serial Entrepreneur. Explore the similarities of philanthropy and social purpose investing through stories from Luni’s Fledge program, helping “impact” entrepreneurs with their business planning and launch. Admission: Free, but space is limited. Register here.

Saturday, June 22

Family Weekend with the Kids Discovery Museum (KiDiMu)
10:00 am – 4:00 pm (Sat); 12:00 – 4:00 pm (Sun) @ Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (550 Winslow Way E)
This special weekend of family-friendly events includes a Bainbridge Island Storymakers Studio, hands-on art activities, art demonstrations and musical entertainment on the Plaza, as well as the opportunity to meet artist and children’s book author Barbara Helen Berger. Admission: Free

Sunday, June 23

Bainbridge Island Winery Tour Weekend
12:00 – 5:00 pm (Sat-Sun) @ 7 Bainbridge Island Wineries
Visit seven cozy artisanal Bainbridge Island wineries as part of this summer tradition. All wineries are open for tours and tasting this weekend, where you can meet the winemakers and taste classic favorites from grapes grown east of the mountains, as well as a few island-grown delights! As our island wineries are very intimate (small), groups should be under 6 persons.

Monday, June 10

Sacred Groove Ecstatic Dance

Inspired by Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms/Sweat Your Prayers, this weekly groove session facilitated by Mary Short and David Franklin brings together a rich tapestry of music and community to help participants to let go of and transform their burdens! Admission: $12/session

Tuesday, June 11

Travelogue: Rowing into the Son
7:30 – 9:00 pm @ Bainbridge Island Library (1270 Madison Ave N)
Jordan Hanssen was born in Alabama and raised in England, Ireland, New Mexico, and Washington State. In 2006 he rowed from New York to England with three others in a 29-foot rowboat, and Rowing Into the Son tells his story about that experience.

No More Schoolapalooza!

Celebrate the last day of school and the beginning of summer at the performance stage in Waterfront Park. Enjoy a full afternoon of local live music, frisbee or football! Admission: Free

Author Book Reading: Good Life Lab with Wendy Tremayne

Bainbridge Island’s premier purveyor of fine new and used books continues its popular guest author series when New Mexico writer Wendy Tremayne talks about her book, The Good Life Lab: Radical Experiments on Hands-On Living.

Friday, June 14

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) Grand Opening
11:15 am – 6:00 pm @ BIMA (550 Winslow Way E)
The big day is arriving! A new island landmark will arrive with the grand opening of the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art this Friday at the corner of Winslow Way and Highway 305. Inaugural exhibitions feature over 50 artists. Arrive right at 11:15 am for the ribbon cutting ceremony! Admission: Free

Saturday, June 15

Bainbridge Island Wooden Boat Festival
10:00 am – 5:00 pm (Sat); 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (Sun) @ Harbor Pub Marina
Enjoy this celebration of almost 50 wooden boats on Bainbridge Island. Meet the owners and artisans who keep these boats ship-shape, enjoy live music, and experience a bit of what makes Island life unique!
