Thanksgiving Week Wine Tasting at Bainbridge Vineyards

Bainbridge Vineyards invites you to stop by this week during their special Thanksgiving holiday hours. All week-long, the Day Road vineyard and tasting room (8989 Day Road East, 206-842-9463) will be open from 12-5 pm. Any purchase of three bottles will receive a 15% discount. As part of the BILA-Bainbridge Vineyards partnership, guests of BILA member lodgers also receive a special 2-for-1 on wine tasting!

bainbridge-vineyards-1Bainbridge Vineyards is one of seven small, independent wineries that dot the island. Its roots date to 1977, when Gerard and JoAnne Bentryn founded a single-acre vineyard in downtown Winslow after studying viticulture around the world. In 1982 they released their first estate-grown vintage and shortly after purchased seven-acres from Akio Suyematsu, whose family farm had operated in the area since 1928. Excepting the period of Japanese-American forced internment during WWII, the Day Road farm is the oldest, continuously farmed property in Kitsap County.

bainbridge-vineyards-logo-201x141Last year, Bainbridge Vineyards was re-opened by Betsey Wittick and a new cooperative ownership. Wittick, who holds a Masters in Horticulture from Cornell University, began growing grapes and making wine with the Bentryns in 1989. Today, Wittick remains committed to seeing local food production remain a viable livelihood and important asset to the community. The certified-organic Bainbridge Vineyards produces only about 1,200 cases per year with wine made exclusively from Bainbridge Island-grown grapes and fruit.

bainbridge-vineyards-pinot-grisIn 2010, Sunset Magazine named Bainbridge Island “the Northwest’s new wine destination.” In recent years, growing numbers of visitors from Seattle and further afield tour and taste Bainbridge Island’s boutique wineries. Whether you’re a visitor or an Island resident, stop by Bainbridge Vineyards this week to see (and taste) for yourself!

Bainbridge Vineyards’s wine is also available at Town & Country Market, Bay Hay & Feed and Walt’s Lynwood Center Market on Bainbridge Island, as well as finer markets in Poulsbo, Kingston and Port Townsend. Bainbridge Vineyards is a member of the Winery Alliance of Bainbridge Island.

Join IslandWood educators and certified beach naturalists as they identify sea stars, nudibranchs, sea cucumbers, urchins, marine worms and more! Participants will get a close-up look at critters brought back from the briney deep by volunteer divers and placed gently into kiddie swimming pools. We’ll have some of our favorite marine life field guides to enhance identification. Beach naturalists will model respectful techniques for interacting with wildlife as we practice being responsible beach stewards while enjoying our investigations and outdoor fun alongside Rich Passage. Please wear rain boots and warm clothing. For the safety of the marine life, please no dogs at this event. Pre-registration required. Admission: Free
