Things To Do on Bainbridge Island This Week – February 3-9

It’s a week of Bainbridge Island’s favorite regular events, starting with trivia nights and a museum film series, and ending with 1st Fridays art walk and the latest from the folks over at the Battle Point Astronomical Association. There are always a lot of Things To Do on Bainbridge Island… this week and next week, too! With everything to see and do, we think you’ll want to spend a few nights on our Bainbridge Island!

Monday, February 3

Bainbridge Island BrewingTrivia Night at the Taproom
7:00 – 9:00 pm @ Bainbridge Island Brewing (9415 Coppertop Loop)
Monday is Trivia Night at the brewery, presented by Trivia Time Live’s DJ. From 7 to 9pm, teams compete for prizes and the pennant during four rounds of interesting questions.  Come and play by yourself or join a team.  Relax, have a few beers and snacks, and join in the weekly fun! Come early for seating. Admission: Free

smART Films: Smoke Signals
7:00 – 10:00 pm @ Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (550 Winslow Way East)
BIMA smARTfilms series fosters community conversation through the merger of visual art, film, and narrative. After the screening, our host and guest(s) will initiate a discussion about the film and its art. All are welcome to participate in an open exchange of ideas during these post-film discussions. Written & directed by Sherman Alexie, Smoke Signals is about contemporary Native American life and culture. Thomas and Victor (who are not particularly good friends) go on a road trip, invoking equal parts humor and humanity, while the film’s colorful style and self-mocking tone is still fresh and invigorating. Editor Bryan Berdan in attendance. Admission: $10 adults; $6 students

Kitsap Regional Library Presents “Books on Tap”

Tap into your inner genius at Treehouse Café. Dazzle your new friends with your encyclopedic knowledge of book trivia! Newcomers are welcome. IslandWood on Bainbridge IslandWeaving with Cattails
1:00 – 3:00 pm @ IslandWood (4450 Blakely Avenue NE)
Weaving has been an important part of the Native American culture for many generations. Wild grasses, tree bark and plants have been used to create beautiful and functional mats, baskets, cordage, and other objects for everyday use. Come experience the rare opportunity to view and hold beautiful century-old baskets from IslandWood’s native basket collection in the Great Hall, and discover their designs and cultural uses. Then, you’ll move to the Art Studio where IslandWood artisans will share knowledge about harvesting and weaving with local natural materials. You will learn weaving techniques with cattails and paper, and have the chance to create two or more fun projects to take home. Admission: $5

Join your neighbors and fellow art lovers for this monthly tradition on Bainbridge Island. The 1st Fridays Art Walk includes dozens of downtown Winslow venues – from art galleries to businesses, from the Bainbridge Island Public Library to Bainbridge Arts & Crafts. A number of local restaurants also join in the fun, offering art goers the opportunity to try small bites from their menus. Most businesses are located on Winslow Way. Admission: Free

Saturday, February 8

Planet-MercuryPlanetarium Show “Mercury: The Fastest and Smallest Planet”
7:00 pm @ Battle Point Park (11299 Arrow Point Drive NE)
Mercury is a planet of many extremes. Join Astronomer Steve Ruhl on a journey to the first rock from the sun, a planet of fire and unlikely ice. If the sky is clear, astronomers will be on hand with telescopes for public star-gazing. The Battle Point Astronomical Association (BPAA) is a non-profit amateur astronomy organization. We operate the Edwin E. Ritchie Observatory and John H. Rudolph Planetarium in the Helix House at Battle Point Park. Admission: $

Champagne with Shelby
4:00 – 7:00 pm @ Manor House (4611 Woodson Lane NE)
Champagne with Shelby will feature talented Seattle singer songwriter, Shelby Earl. With a small silent auction, wonderful hors d’oeurves from the Beach House, and as the name suggests… champagne, (as well as beer and wine), Shelby will delight the audience with an intimate acoustic performance.
