Toddler Storytime at the Library

Get a jump start on reading at this early literacy storytime geared just for toddlers (ages 0-6). Lots of full body movement, songs, stories and rhymes designed to build letter knowledge, vocabulary and narrative skills. Admission: Free

BIMA smARTfilms series fosters community conversation through the merger of visual art, film, and narrative. After the screening, our host and guest(s) will initiate a discussion about the film and its art. All are welcome to participate in an open exchange of ideas during these post-film discussions. Boomtown – An exploration of the celebration and impact of “Independence Day” – July 4th – on the Suquamish reservation, told through the lens of Native Americans who earn a substantial portion of their livelihood through the sale of fireworks. Director Bryan Gunnar Cole and Benny and Nic Armstrong of the Suquamish Tribe will attend. Admission: $10 adults; $6 for students

Pasty Workshop: Croissants

Some believe authentic, delicious croissants are only found in Paris. Au contraire! Seasoned pastry instructor Heather Andrus will teach you how to create buttery, layered French pastries from your own kitchen. Learn to mix, shape and proof your butter-locked dough, then bake it into exquisite croissants, pain au chocolat and savory pastries filled with ham and swiss or spinach and feta. By the end of the course, you will learn pastry chef secrets that will advance your baking skills as you learn different approaches to the croissant craft. Jazz Band Ranger and the Re-ArrangersDjango’s Birthday Party and Free Concert

Gypsy jazz musicians from around Puget Sound will celebrate Django Reinhardt’s 104th birthday with an evening of music on Bainbridge Island. The party will be hosted by local gypsy jazz band Ranger and the ‘Re-Arrangers’, and will feature several guest soloists including Chris Laughbon on trombone, Tony Kahn on guitar and Amanda Grzadzielewski on Harp. Django, born in 1910, was an itinerant Gypsy who earned international acclaim in the 1930s. Many of his compositions became jazz classics and he is considered one of the top guitar soloists of all time! Admission: Free

12 Years in the Woods Exhibit at Bainbridge Island Museum of ArtSpecial Exhibit: ’12 Years in the Woods’

Arts Studio Gallery began in 2002 as an alternative gallery and studio space “off the beaten path.” Art Grice and friends converted an old barn on Bainbridge Island into a gallery and featured numerous solo, group shows, and performances in this nontraditional venue. Twelve Years in the Woods is a group show of 26 artists, many who had solo exhibitions during these years. The show highlights artists whose work Grice found compelling – ranging from traditional to experimental. Artworks include photography, printmaking, painting, ceramics, glass, wood and mixed media sculpture. Admission: Free
