Things To Do on Bainbridge Island This Week – August 19-25

It’s hard to believe, but August is winding to a close! That said, the busy roster of things to do on Bainbridge Island continues. Our latest list of “Things To Do on Bainbridge Island This Week” starts gently with meditation and a book club, but ends with a Japanese fan making workshop and Island Theatre’s Ten-Minute Play Festival! As usual, it’s a great mix of things to see and do on Bainbridge Island!

Monday, August 19

Bainbridge Island Meditation Group
7:00 – 8:30 pm @ Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church (11042 Sunrise Drive NE)
The Bainbridge Island Meditation Group is a drop-in group dedicated to supporting the meditation practice of people living in the Bainbridge Island area.  Previous vipassana practice and/or previous attendance at an beginning mediation class is helpful but not essential. Admission: $2 suggested donation

Waterfront Book Group: ‘Tinkers’ by Paul Harding
1:00 – 2:00 pm @ Waterfront Park Community Center (370 Brien Drive SE)
This month’s book group will discuss Paul Harding’s Tinkers. Wednesday Concerts in the Parks

Grab the kids, a picnic and enjoy an evening of music under the sun! This week’s concert features Grupo Meridional. Celebrate the last days of summer with sizzling Latin/Cuban dance grooves from Bainbridge Island’s own Alan Simcoe and band. Admission: Free

Thursday, August 22

Writers’ Workshop led by Bob McAllister & Nancy Rekow
6:30 pm @ Home of Rekow & Everett Thompson (8525 Jennie Avenue)
This Island writers’ workshop is open to beginning or experienced writers, high school students or adults, poets or prose writers. Newcomers are always welcome. For poets: bring a poem or two, typed single space, with eight copies. Prose writers: bring 1-2 pages, typed double-spaced, with 8 copies. Or, come with nothing and just see what it’s like! The Salon – A Forum for Conversation
1:00 – 2:30 pm @ Bainbridge Island Public Library (1270 Madison Avenue N.)
The Salon is for people who enjoy stimulating conversation and wish to learn from others in civil dialogue. Topics will vary, but the mode will be general interest subjects that impact the public. The Salon meets in the large meeting room at the Bainbridge Island Public Library. Admission: Free

Saturday, August 24

Japanese Fan Making Workshop
2:00 – 4:30 pm @ Bainbridge Island Public Library (1270 Madison Avenue N.)
6th generation fan makers, Kanji and Naomi Ishizumi, will teach their craft at a special workshop on the art of Japanese fans. Call or stop by the Bainbridge Island Public Library to register. All participants will make a personalized fan out of paper and wood. Admission: $20 materials fee collected at the beginning of the program.

Island Theatre Ten-Minute Play Festival at Bainbridge Performing Arts
7:30 pm @ Bainbridge Performing Arts (200 Madison Avenue North)
Island Theatre’s 2103 Ten-Minute Play Festival presents fifteen plays by local playwrights over two evenings at Bainbridge Performing Arts. The plays were chosen from sixty-three submissions from throughout Kitsap County. The stagings feature Island Theatre directors and actors. Admission: By Donation
