Kids’ Collage Workshop with Lee Schiring
10:00 am – 12:00 pm @ Hyla Middle School (7861 Bucklin Hill Road)
Let’s make weather art! In this two-part workshop, we’ll use collage to explore the drama of weather. We’ll look at pictures, share ideas and then sketch, cut, tear, and arrange paper. Most supplies will be provided by the instructor. For ages 7 and up. Admission: $80

Eye on Artist Lecture Series: Max Grover

Join your neighbors for an evening with Max Grover, artist of Hunter, Gatherer, Painter in the MESA Gallery at BIMA. He will talk about his work, his creative process and his rich resources of inspiration. Q&A and light reception will follow the presentation. Preregistration required. Admission: $6; Students are free with pre-registration

Friday, August 8

10:00 am – 6:00 pm @ several locations
The 14th annual Summer Studio Tour showcases the work of 48 artists in five local artists’ studios. Many new artists will be on hand, and there will be a wonderful variety of hand-crafted work, including watercolors, jewelry, pottery, furniture, metal art, garden art, mixed media, fiber art, and photography. Be sure to check out all five studios and buy original hand-crafted art directly from the artist. Grab a cool lemonade and stroll through the artists’ studios and gardens. Bring a friend and spend the day. The studios are open 10am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sunday. The Studio Tour is a free self-guided tour. Admission: Free

Join other local food lovers and celebrate the season with a hearty farm breakfast. The chef, Kerrie Sanson, offers a sweet and savory farm spread to be talked about for days. According to organizers, the breakfast is a lovely destination for cyclists out for a Sunday ride. Admission: $32

romson-regarde-bustilloMeet the Artist: Romson Regarde Bustillo
1:00 – 3:00 pm @ Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (550 Winslow Way East)
Romson Regarde Bustillo was born on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. His work is represented in private and public collections nationally and internationally. Dugay na, meaning “no longer new” or “a long time now,” in the Mindanao Bisaya/Cebuano language, is part of an evolving series of intricately patterned prints and mix media on paper. With this project Bustillo is continuing to explore how shifts in metacognition play important roles for cultures, individuals, and the creative process. Each piece can act as a narrative, meditation tool, a spell, or all three. Admission: Free
