The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art’s smART Films Comedy Series fosters community conversation through the merger of visual art, film and narrative. This week’s feature is Bananas. Woody Allen’s humor is at his wild and bizarre best in this story of a “weird-gadget” tester who, after being jilted by his girlfriend (Louise Lasser), ends up as president of a tiny country where absurdity reigns. Vasily Kalinnikov’s life was cut short by illness but not before he wrote his magnificent symphony in G minor. This class focuses on the nature of Judaism as a religion, its evolution, and how it is similar and dissimilar to western and eastern religions. In addition we shall explore the order, purpose and underlying systematic philosophy of Jewish liturgy that Jews, potential converts, and seekers from other religions may begin to deepen their immediate understanding of weekly communal rituals. Finally, the course delves into home rituals and symbols, from discussions of their meaning to practical how-to guides for a household wishing to deepen its understanding of Jewish ritual. Admission: Inquire
